What We're Hearing

Gary Barnett is out at CU (or maybe not) and Mitch Mustain (Scout.com #1 QB in the country) decommitted from Arkansas where Houston Nutt has pretty much worn out his welcome.

RUMOR ALERT:

Supposedly, Tyson is buying out Nutt's contract at Arkansas, he's going to CU to replace Barnett and bringing Mustain along with him and Butch Davis is replacing Nutt at Arkansas. There's a lot of smoke around this, but no fire yet that anyone can see.

We were right on the Ron Prince to KSU story, lets see if we can go 2 for 2 on nutty coaching hires this year - but right now this is nothing more than a juicy rumor that makes sense with the fishy events of the past two days.

(Update: I was just e-mailed this tremendous fark fitting for the occasion)

Are you implying that Mustain's defection is because he heard rumblings about Nutt leaving? Question 2: Nutt's an okay coach, but why would he be worth buying out a jumbo contract? I thought CU was supposed to be strapped for cash.

The idea would be that Mustain is following Nutt wherever he goes (he's from Arkansas and has had a good relationship with Nutt for years). Mustain's mother was extremely non-commital on the reason for his decommit, which of course just is adding to speculation.

As for how the $$ works, that's the obvious wrench in the whole rumor. Supposedly Tyson would footing the bill to buyout Nutt at Arky, no idea yet on how Barnett's $1.8mil gets handled (that's why he's lasted so long at CU to begin with).

Mitch will not go where nutt goes. Nutt fired a coach at arkansas that recruited mitch and forgot to tell mitch. If Nutt leaves for any reason Mitch will not follow. Sources are saying the QB is going to ND or Tenn.

My take: Tom O'Brien to CU.
